Ketamine-Assisted Therapy FAQs

  • Ketamine is a safe medicine and an emerging effective treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. Presently, ketamine is the only legal psychedelic . Ketamine has been used off-label for mental health conditions for over 20 years.

  • I work with my medical partners at Journey Clinical to provide a prescription for oral ketamine. We work together to prepare for ketamine sessions. You take your ketamine dose (via a pill or lozenge) while I am there the whole time, supporting and guiding you. Ketamine sessions last about 3 hours. After your ketamine sessions, we meet to integrate your experiences and turn those insights into actions and healing.

During your ketamine session, you will be invited to lie down, put on eyeshades and listen to calming music. This internal experience increases the likelihood of a healing experience.

  • Experiences with ketamine vary. Most people experience a gentle openness, as well as an outside view of their life and struggles. This temporary separation allows people to work through trauma, depression, anxiety or any other issues that arise. People can also have deep, meaningful mystical experiences at moderate doses of ketamine.

  • Ketamine-assisted therapy has been used in clinical trials to treat a variety of mental health conditions:

Depression: Ketamine has produced rapid, profound, and surprisingly durable antidepressant effects. In a recent study, 50-75% of patients received relief after a single dose. Higher rates of response and remission were seen with repeated doses. Additionally, ketamine reduced all symptoms of depression, notably suicidal ideation

Anxiety: Ketamine works quickly for anxiety, and over the course of 4-6 treatments continues to reduce levels of anxiety.

PTSD: Ketamine is emerging as a rapid and effective treatment for PTSD. The first randomised trial of ketamine for PTSD showed promising results, with a rapid reduction in symptoms.

Alcoholism: Over 65% of patients treated with ketamine (versus 24% with standard treatment) achieved one year sobriety.

  • Psychedelics like ketamine that produce a different state of consciousness can be intense at times. If difficult or uncomfortable experiences occur, they are temporary and will be processed with a trained therapist. Often, difficult experiences lead to healing insights and resolution of long-standing negative feelings.

Many Ketamine clinics deliver the medicine, then leave patients alone in a room with little or no preparation, aftercare or integration. This isn’t an ideal model of care and can lead to negative experiences.

  • Therapy sessions before and after your ketamine sessions are $165. Ketamine sessions last about 3 hours and cost $495.

Your medical intake and follow-up by your medical provider are billed separately from our services. We partner with affordable providers that follow your care and create your individualized treatment plan.
